Hi, I’m Erin.
I’m passionate about helping individuals, couples, and relationships deepen their self-understanding, connection, & experience of the world around them. I’m an Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Illinois and I completed my Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy from Purdue University Northwest and have experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experience. My research focuses on the application of clinical theory to historically underrepresented groups, such as queer couples with a partner undergoing a gender transition and folks identifying as polyamorous/consensually non-monogamy.
My Approach
I use an eclectic blend of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), experiential therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy to help clients reach their goals. I’ve completed levels 1 & 2 of training in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy.
Therapy is never a “one-size-fits-all” endeavor because every client’s goals, experiences, and hardships are individual to them. My therapy is always client-centered and I believe that my clients are the experts of their own lives. My role is to provide perspective, education, and tools in collaboration with my clients. The foundation for therapuetic change lies in the unique relationship created mutually between therapist and client. Safety is the single most important piece of this dynamic. It’s crucial clients feel validated in who they are and what they’ve experienced throughout the treatment process. The first step to creating that safety is an affirming, intersectional approach that recognizes larger systems of power and oppression conceptually and practically.
I have experience working with a widely diverse clientele across various clinics, including the Michigan State University Couple and Family Therapy Clinic, The Purdue University Northwest Couple and Family Therapy Center, and in private practice at Balanced Life Counseling. I particularly love working with queer couples navigating a gender transition, young adults interested in identity work and self-discovery, and those engaging in polyamory/consensual non-monogamy.
